EIT Digital to deliver over 220 new talents to drive Europe's digital transformation

Lights off, spot on. On 24 November 2018, over 220 graduates of the EIT Digital Master School will be shining on stage in a theatre in the Dutch city Eindhoven, while officially receiving their double master’s degree and a certificate from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). This co- called City of Lights is selected to celebrate the fifth official Graduation Ceremony of EIT Digital Master School.

This new cohort of graduates, will offer Europe fresh talents to help drive the digital transformation. These talents are highly needed in Europe, because according to the European Comission, forty percent of companies have difficulties finding skilled ICT specialists and there will be 500.00 unfilled vacancies for ICT professionals by 2020.

EIT Digital Master School is a two-year master programme where students study a technical master programme at two of the top technical universities in Europe. On top of the technical Masters students are trained in innovation and entrepreneurship to help guarantee Europe’s leading role in the global digital economy.

According to Anders Flodström, Chief Education Officer at EIT Digital, this kind of graduates is in high demand highly by all types of business from startups to large corporates. Research among the EIT Digital Master School alumni shows that almost all of them find a job within six months of graduation or are recruited even before graduation. More than half of the alumni start or have the ambition to start their own business.

Every year, more international students are choosing to study at the EIT Digital Master School. Hence, every year the number of graduates rises. This year more than 220 students will graduate in November compared to 204 students in 2017 and 138 in 2016.

During the graduation ceremony the students and their relatives will hear inspirational speeches from Prof Dr Willem Jonker, CEO of EIT Digital and ir. Jan Mengelers, Chairman Executive Board, Eindhoven University of Technology. The keynote speaker will be revealed at a later date. After the official ceremony, the students will be invited to a gala dinner and party in the iconic Evoluon in Eindhoven.

Eindhoven is called the City of Lights because it opened Holland’s first match factory in 1870. The nickname often also refers to the fact that EIT Digital’s partner Philips started it’s lamp factory in this city in 1891. Today the city is famous for its high tech start up scene.
