Admission Requirements

To qualify applicants need to fulfill the admission requirements based on previous studies, English proficiency and documentation.

1. Previous studies: A completed Bachelor's degree

Applicants must have completed a Bachelor’s degree encompassing a minimum of 180 ECTS credits or equivalent academic qualifications from an internationally recognized university.

Conditional acceptance
Students in their final year of undergraduate education may also apply and if qualified, receive a conditional acceptance. If you have not completed your studies, please include a written statement from the degree administration office (or equivalent department), confirming that you are enrolled in the final year of your education and giving your expected completion date. If you receive a conditional offer, you should present your degree certificate to your entry university before enrollment at the latest. Applicants following longer technical programmes and who have completed courses equivalent to an amount of 180 ECTS, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Specific Admission Requirements

Autonomous Systems (AUS)

A B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering / electronics, computer engineering, computer science or information technology is required. Students should have basic competence in programming, data structures and algorithms, and mathematics including calculus, algebra, and mathematical statistics.

Cloud Computing and Services (CCS)

A B.Sc. degree in computer science, computer engineering or information systems, is required. Students should have basic competence in mathematics, theoretical foundations of CS, algorithms and data structures, software engineering and database systems, computer architectures, computer networks and operating systems. 

Cyber Security (CSE)

 

Bachelor's degree holders in Computer Science and Information Technology as well as Mathematics, Statistics or Electrical Engineering, provided they demonstrate basic knowledge of programming and information technology.

Data Science (DSC)

A B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering/ electronics, computer engineering, computer science or information technology is required. The studies should include at least 60 ECTS courses in computer science, computer architecture, or programming, and mathematics including calculus, algebra and mathematical statistics. 

Embedded Systems (ES)

A B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering/ electronics, computer engineering, computer science or information technology is required. The studies should include at least 60 ECTS courses in computer science, computer architecture, or programming, and mathematics including calculus, algebra and mathematical statistics. 

Human Computer Interaction and Design (HCID)

A  B.Sc. degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering or information systems is required. In special cases students from industrial design, media technology, computational linguistics, and cognitive sciences with sufficient skills in mathematics, software design and programming can be considered.

Internet Technology and Architectures (ITA)

A  B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering, electronics, computer science, computer engineering or information technology is required. Sufficient background in basic data communications, telecommunications and internetworking as well as mathematics, including calculus, linear algebra and mathematical statistics is also required.

Visual Computing and Communication (VCC)

A B.Sc. in electrical engineering, computer science or related areas is required. Previous education must have included basic mathematics courses within linear algebra, Fourier methods and probability theory, as well as basic object-oriented programming.

2. Language requirements: Proof of English language proficiency

Applicants must provide proof of their English language proficiency. This is generally established through an internationally recognized test such as TOEFL or IELTS. We therefore advise all applicants considering submitting an application to urgently take either a TOEFL or an IELTS test. These tests are accepted by all partner universities. Please note that the results of your test must be done and uploaded at the time of submitting an application. We will not accept late submissions of proofs of English proficiency.

Some of the universities accept additional tests or exemptions. We have listed this information under ”University specific language tests and exemptions”. Please note that these exceptions are not accepted by all partner universities. Even though one university may accept some other test, your second preference entry or your preferred exit universities may not. For this reason, again, we urge all applicants to take a TOEFL or an IELTS.”

General language requirements

IELTS Academic Training test (www.ielts.org)
An overall band score of at least 6.5, with no section lower than 6, is required. IELTS-tests are verified online by the Admissions office, submitting a photocopy of your test together with your application documents is therefore sufficient.

TOEFL Internet-based test, iBT (www.toefl.org)
A total score of at least 92 (with writing section 22) is required. English test results from TOEFL should be sent directly from the ETS test center to EIT Digital Master School (Institution code: 0210, Dept 99.). Examinee score reports or photocopies are not accepted.

Please note that it can take several weeks for your test scores to arrive from ETS, so arrange for them to be sent to EIT Digital Master School as early as possible.

University of Cambridge / University of Oxford Certificates
Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): grades A- C are accepted.
Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): grades A- C are accepted.

English proficiency tests are waived for applicants who*:

  • have completed a higher education degree instructed in English at a university in an EU/EEA country or a university of applied sciences in an EU/EEA country. The official language of the degree programme has to be stated in the degree certificate or its supplement, or in the transcript of records. Statements are not accepted. Other documentation regarding language of instruction will not be accepted.
  • have completed a degree instructed in English at a university that is physically located in one of the following countries: USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand.

* Please note that this does not apply for TU DELFT.

University specific language tests and exemptions

Aalto University (Aalto)

Applicants who have completed a higher education degree instructed in Finnish, Swedish or English at a Finnish university or a university of applied sciences.

Applicants who have studied as exchange students in the field of science and technology at Aalto University.

Applicants who have completed an eligibility-conferring degree at a partner university of Aalto University in an EU/EEA country in the field of technology or science.

Aalto will also accept TOEFL PDT in addition to PBT. The minimum score requirements for the TOEFL PDT test are: reading section 22, listening section 22, writing section 24.

As an exit university, Aalto University requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

Eötvös Lorand University (ELTE)

All state accredited language examinations (according to the CEFR) - minimum requirement: level B2.

Bachelor studies conducted in English at an internationally recognized university (language of instruction needs to be mentioned on transcript or diploma supplement) or secondary studies at an internationally recognized secondary education institution (language of instruction needs to be mentioned on high school diploma).

Politecnico di Milano (Polimi)

  • TOEFL: CBT -210 / IBT – 78 / PBT- 547
  • TOEIC (only listening and reading) - 720
  • IELTS (Academic) - 6
  • CAMBRIDGE certificates:

    • Proficiency (CPE - level C2) - Grade C
    • Advanced (CAE level C1) - Grade C
    • First (level B2) - Grade B

  • TRINITY COLLEGE: ISE II
  • ENGLISH AS BACHELOR MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION: Students who can prove that English was the medium of instruction of their Bachelor Degree (at least for 3 years) are exempted from providing any English language certification. In this last case, students are required to upload a document certified by the university attesting that their programme was entirely taught in English.

Royal Institute of Technology (KTH)

For applicants choosing KTH as their entry university, the following tests and waivers are also accepted:

  • TOEFL PBT (paper-based test) : Score of 4.5 (scale 1-6) in written test, total score of 575
  • Students with 30 higher education credits (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland where the language of instruction of the course is English. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.
  • Students with a Bachelor's degree (equivalent to 180 ECTS credits) in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Applications, Medicine, Pharmacy, Science or Technology from India or Pakistan unless it is documented that the language of instruction for the programme was a language other than English.
  • Students with a Bachelor's degree from a university where English is the only language of instruction, in accordance with the recommendations in the edition of the International Handbook of Universities that was current the year the degree was awarded.
  • Students with a Bachelor's degree (equivalent to 180 ECTS credits) where English is the main subject.
  • Students with 30 higher education credits (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) from Great Britain, Ireland, Malta, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, or English speaking parts of Canada. The language of instruction must be English.
  • Students with a formal transcript or degree certificate where it is clearly stated that the language of instruction was English. Other documentation regarding language of instruction will not be accepted.
  • Turkish students who have studied a 1 year preparatory class in English at a University. The class must be listed on the transcript and the student must have received a passing grade.
  • In some cases English proficiency can be fulfilled from upper secondary education, e.g. GCE O-level (minimum grade C). Proof thereof must be enclosed in the application.
  • Pearson PTE Academic: score of 62 (writing 61)
  • Michigan English Language Assesment Battery (MELAB): minimum score of 90
  • University of Michigan, Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE)

As an exit university, KTH requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

Sorbonne University (former UPMC - Université Pierre et Marie Curie) (SU)

For applicants choosing SU as their entry university, the following tests and waivers are also accepted:

  • CLES (CLES2, level B2 of CEFR)
  • TOEFL PBT (paper-based test) : Score of 4.5 (scale 1-6) in written test, total score of 575
  • Students with 30 higher education credits (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland where the language of instruction of the course is English. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.
  • Students with 30 higher education credits (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) from Great Britain, Ireland, Malta, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, or English speaking parts of Canada. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.
  • Students with 30 higher education credits (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) from India, Pakistan or Bangladesh where the language of instruction of the course is English. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.

As an exit university, SU requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

Technical University Berlin (TUB)

For applicants choosing TU Berlin, the following tests are also accepted:

  • UNIcert II (corresponds to European Level B2)
  • Cambridge English: First (FCE), also known as First Certificate in English: level C or higher
  • TOEFL ITP with at least 550 points (only accepted if taken locally at the School of Computer Science at TU Berlin)
  • TOEIC 785 or higher (at least 385 in each part of the test)
  • FCE FIRST Cambridge Certificate of English, at least B2 (level C or higher)
  • Proof of having attended at least one semester within a technically oriented study course in English in an English speaking country (at least 30 ECTS; language of instruction needs to be mentioned on transcript or diploma supplement)
  • Bachelor studies in English at an internationally recognized university (language of instruction needs to be mentioned on transcript or diploma supplement)
  • English as mother tongue (as proven by citizenship of one of the following countries: Antigua & Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Cook Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, Nigeria, Philippines, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Vincent, Trinidad & Tobago, United Kingdom, United States of America)

Technical University Eindhoven (TUE)

A minimum of 21 in each section of your TOEFL iBT is required.

Exemptions from the English language tests:

  • Students who have followed their previous education with English as the sole language of instruction for at least their entire Bachelor's degree program in the following countries are exempted from the requirement to submit one of the mentioned language tests: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, UK and USA.
  • Students who have gained a diploma at the Dutch vwo level (pre-university education level).
  • Students with an Algemeen Secundair Onderwijs (ASO) diploma from a Belgian pre-university education level.

Technical University of Madrid (UPM)

  • TOEFL CBT (computer-based test): with a score of at least 227.
  • TOEFL iBT : 72
  • IELTS, score of 5.0 or higher
  • Cefr level B2
  • Bachelor studies in English (needs to be mentioned on transcript or degree certificate)
  • For Spanish applicants: Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas. Plan de estudios 1998 (RD 967/1988): 4º curso superado. Plan de estudios 2006 (RD 1629/2006): certificado nivel avanzado.

As an exit university, UPM requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

University of Nice Sophia Antipolis (UNS)

For applicants choosing UNS as their entry university, UNS accepts:

- CEFR, minimum requirement: level B2
IELTS 5.5/6
- TOEIC >= 785 points
TOEFL >= 92

As an exit university, UNS requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.


University of Rennes 1 (UR1)

For applicants choosing U. Rennes 1 as their entry university, the following tests and waivers are also accepted:

  • CLES (CLES2, level B2 of CEFR)
  • TOEIC : score 785 or above

As an exit university, U. Rennes 1 requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

University of Technology Delft (DUT)

The required levels for CAE and CPE is at least a B.

TOEFL PBT (paper-based test): minimum score 560 + TSE => 50 + TWE => 5

TOEFL CBT (computer-based test): minimum score 225 + TSE => 50

London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Examinations board (LCCIEB): English for Business

EDI: English for Commerce Level 3

JETSET level 5 (Vantage) written + oral

Pearson General English Test: Upper Intermediate

Pearson Academic English Test: minimum score 59

Oxford Test of English "B" level: score 111-140

NATO STANAG: STANAG 3

AIM Awards ANGLIA: Advanced

Moreover UniTrento accepts also:

  • Certificates stating specifically that the level gained is or is equivalent to a B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL);
  • Proof of attending for at least one academic year a higher education institute abroad taught entirely in English (high school or university)

As an exit university, UNITN requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

University of Turku (UTU)

For applicants choosing University of Turku as their entry university, the following tests are also accepted:

  • TOEFL PBT (paper-based test): A total score of 575
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic only) : A total score of 62, no individual scores below 54.
  • A Bachelor's (or higher) degree in English in an EU or an EEA country.

Additional exemptions from the English language tests:

  • Secondary education in English in Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, New Zealand, or the U.S.A.
  • English as the A language (i.e. mother tongue) as a part of IB (International Baccalaureate), or as the LI (i.e. mother tongue), or the LII (i.e. as the official language) as a part of EB (European Baccalaureate).
  • A Bachelor's (or higher) degree from a university in Finland or a degree from anammattikorkeakoulu institution in Finland, if the applicant has demonstrated language skills in the English language according to the requirements concerning foreign language studies in Bachelor's and polytechnic degrees in Finland.

As an exit university, UTU requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

University of Twente (UT)

For applicants choosing UTwente as their entry university, there are no additional tests and waivers. Please note that the language test results may not be older than 2 year.

  • Students who have gained a diploma at the Dutch VWO level (pre-university education level) are exempted.

University Paris Sud (UPS)

For applicants choosing UPS as their entry university, the following tests and waivers are also accepted:

  • CLES (CLES2, level B2 of CEFR)
  • TOEFL PBT (paper-based test) : Score of 4.5 (scale 1-6) in written test, total score of 575
  • Students with 30 higher education credits (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland where the language of instruction of the course is English. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.
  • Students with 30 higher education credits (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) from Great Britain, Ireland, Malta, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, or English speaking parts of Canada. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.
  • Students with a Bachelor's degree from a university where English is the only language of instruction, in accordance with the recommendations in the edition of the International Handbook of Universities that was current the year the degree was awarded.
  • Students with a formal transcript or degree certificate where it is clearly stated that the language of instruction was English. Other documentation regarding language of instruction will not be accepted.
  • For applicants from France: proof of high-school level in English.

As an exit university, UPS requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

Language requirements at universities which are only available as exits

Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME)

All internationally accredited language examinations (according to the CEFR) - minimum requirement: level B2. IELTS overall band score of 5.5; TOEFL iBT 90; TOEFL PBT 550.

EURECOM

No additional tests and waivers other than the previously mentioned in General Language Requirements. As an exit university, EURECOM requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university
