My name is Andra, I am 23 years old and I come from Romania.
With a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, I decided to follow my passion and enrol in the Human Computer Interaction and Design Master programme. My first year was at the Technical University of Madrid where I took my foundation in the UX field, and my second is in Aalto University in Helsinki, where I am specialising in User Modelling for Advanced HCI.
I truly believe in continued education and research and continue to seek new software and methods to assist with product development.
Why did you choose the EIT Digital Master School?
I decided to join for the chance to study at some of the best universities in Europe, and experience three different institutions and countries during the two years of study and summer school. I wanted to learn about state-of-the-art research in this field, but also how to build and manage my own business.
What do you like most about your academic curriculum?
The Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) classes represented for me an opportunity to gain not only theoretical business skills, but also real-life skills, like how to create a start-up and what steps you have to follow in order to make it successful. These skills could prove invaluable in the future of my career.
Was it easy to move to your entry/exit universities?
It was a challenge to move to a different country, to adapt to a new culture and make new friends, but this experience will only make you stronger, wiser and it will broaden your horizons. In this context, you get a chance to meet people from different parts of the world and become close friends, which will help you overcome these impediments.
What is the greatest lesson this academic journey has taught you?
The most valuable lesson that I have learned during this programme is that the best way to predict the future is to create it, and that innovation is the only way to win. Simply waiting for things to happen is not the right way to move forward.
Do you consider yourself a digital innovator?
I am a Creative Technologist & User Experience Engineer who creates digital products with knowledge and passion. In the near future, my plan is to improve my User Experience skill set and gain hands-on experience. Only then, would I say that I will be truly prepared to launch my own start-up.
Which advice would you give to future students to be successful and make the best of this EIT Digital experience?
Think of life as a prototype. Conduct experiments, make discoveries, and change perspectives. Take joy in the things you create, whether they take the form of a fleeting experience or a heritage that will last for generations. Learn that reward comes in creation and re-creation, not just in the consumption of the world around us. Active participation in the process of creation is your right and your privilege.
